We are a commercial offset printing operation established in 1994. Brightprint’s vision brings pre-press technology and printing techniques together, enabling a better, faster
and more cost-effective print job without compromising on quality. We provide a full, in-house design service using Mac design software and technology. We have an outstanding track record of quality and professionalism, confirmed by the large percentage of clients who have been referred to us from our existing patrons.
We have a diverse and loyal client base from all over New Zealand. Brightprint is always looking for ways to move forward and take the next step in print and design technology.
Buller Printing was established in 1956.
Tom Gray served an apprenticeship with founder of the company, Trevor Phipps.
His apprenticeship began in 1967 as a letterpress machinist and after qualifying as an Advanced Trade journeyman, Tom continued with studies and also became a qualified Advanced Trade Offset Lithographer.
When the opportunity arose to become involved in buying shares in Buller Printing, he and his wife Robyn began what has proven to be one of the Westport’s longest serving local businesses.
Together they have invested heavily in the necessary equipment to serve the needs of the district and have consistently diversified and embraced the ever-changing advances in new technology over their 46 years of ownership which which has proven to ensure their success over their lifetime of working together.
While local service industries, business houses and general public services have been very significant contributors to the day to day operations, it is without doubt that the mining industries of gold and coal have been the biggest supporters in terms of revenue.
Buller printing has been the preferred supplier to B.T.Mining Ltd & Bathurst Resources Ltd from the day they took over from Solid Energy N.Z.
Their association with the Coal industry goes back to the days of the State Coal Mines of NZ, back in the 1960’s, before becoming Coal Corporation of NZ, then Stockton Alliance.
Buller Printing has almost become a member of the team and has learnt to fully understand and anticipate the operational needs of operations from Stockton in the Buller, to Huntly and Maramarua in the North, to Canterbury Coal and Takitimu in the far South.
The mutual support of these operations have definitely been the backbone of the small Westport printing business over the last 50 years and they have lived up to the expectation of supporting the local businesses in recognition of the fact that they are extracting resources from the region.
The ultimate success of operating a business for 46 years can be attributed to an honest personalised approach, not promising anything you can’t deliver, being consistent with communication and always giving clients a progress report so they aren’t concerned about how their job is going and when it might be delivered.
The secret is to not only make clients feel good about using your services, but to ‘delight them’ with quality and communication.
There’s more to a job than the cost and if a client feels confident that they have come to the right place, then consistent service, communication and ‘doing it once and doing it right’ is the key to total client satisfaction. (of course… endeavouring to meet often ‘unfair expectations’ of lightning fast delivery is another factor to contend with).
For Tom and his wife Robyn, the decision to exit from a lifetime of printing is an exciting notion in the knowledge that future printing and related services will be provided to the northern West Coast region by Brightprint, another West Coast family business who not only have a modern spacious factory, but have superior state of the art equipment, equally matched with highly qualified staff who can guarantee the highest quality services expected from discerning clients.
